Areas of Support
Why a focus on men's mental health?
Restored Perspective Counselling focuses on men’s mental health because many men experience emotional challenges in ways that can be difficult to recognize, talk about, or ask for help with. Stress, relationship pressure, loss, trauma, work demands, and other life challenges can build quietly over time. By creating a space that is practical, respectful, and free of judgment, the goal is to make counselling feel more approachable and relevant, giving men a place to talk openly, better understand what they are carrying, and get support in a way that feels comfortable and useful.
The stakes are real. In Canada, 4 of every 5 suicides are among men* - one of the clearest signs of how much men are carrying alone. Reaching out isn't a last resort, it's a reasonable, practical step.

Common Reasons Why Men Seek Counselling
Anxiety & Overthinking
Constant worry, racing thoughts, tension, or feeling unable to switch off can become exhausting. Counselling can help you understand what is driving it and respond differently.
Depression & Low Mood
Feeling flat, disconnected, unmotivated, or unlike yourself can affect every part of life. Counselling can help you make sense of what is happening and find a way forward.
Trauma & Difficult Experiences
Past experiences can continue to shape how you think, feel, react, and relate to others. Counselling offers a safe place to work through what you have been carrying.
Relationship & Family Pressure
Conflict, disconnection, separation, parenting stress, or family tension can take a heavy toll. Counselling can help you gain clarity and improve how you communicate and cope.
Addiction & Unhealthy Coping
Alcohol, substances, gambling, or other habits can sometimes become ways of managing stress or emotional pain. Counselling can help uncover patterns and support healthier choices.
Life & Career Transitions
Career changes, retirement, loss, health concerns, or major life shifts can leave you feeling uncertain or stuck. Counselling can help you adjust, refocus, and move forward with clarity.
A little support can go a long way.
Some FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions.
Do I need to know exactly what I want to talk about?
Not at all. Many men begin counselling knowing that something feels off, but without having a clear way to describe it. Part of the process is simply starting the conversation and making sense of what you are experiencing together.
What happens during the first session?
Your first session is an opportunity to talk about what brought you to counselling, review relevant information from your intake, and begin identifying what you would like to work on. Mika will also discuss what counselling might look like for you moving forward.
How long are counselling sessions?
Standard counselling sessions are 60 minutes. Sessions are available in person in Vancouver or through secure video, depending on availability and your preference.
Is counselling confidential?
Yes. Counselling sessions are private and confidential. There are certain legal and professional limits to confidentiality, and these will be clearly explained in the consent information you review before beginning counselling.
What kinds of concerns can I bring to counselling?
Mika supports men facing a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma, addiction, relationship and family challenges, grief, stress, identity changes, and major life transitions. You do not need to fit into a specific category to benefit from counselling.
What counselling approaches does Mika use?
Mika draws from evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Motivational Interviewing, psychoeducation, and other therapeutic methods. His approach is adapted to the individual rather than following a one-size-fits-all process.
Can I use extended health insurance for counselling?
Many extended health plans provide coverage for services offered by a Registered Clinical Counsellor, but coverage varies by provider and individual plan. It is a good idea to confirm your specific benefits before booking. Receipts can be provided for reimbursement.
What if I have never been to counselling before?
That is completely okay. Many men who reach out are new to counselling. There is no expectation that you arrive knowing exactly what to say or how the process works. Mika will guide you through it and help you get comfortable at your own pace.
